This Thanksgiving, the Manitowoc community witnessed another example of generosity from local business owner Joey Golden Jr of Golden Plated. Instead of focusing on business or holiday sales, Joey chose to spend the day giving back to the people around him.
On Thanksgiving morning, Golden Plated announced on its Facebook page that starting at 5 p.m., they would be serving free meals to anyone without a place to go or food to eat. There were no sign-ups, no requirements, and no expectations. Anyone who needed a warm meal was welcome.

The menu was a full holiday spread. Joey and his team prepared fried chicken, ham, smothered turkey wings, macaroni and cheese, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, and more. The goal was to make Thanksgiving feel comforting for every person who walked through the door.
Joey told VocalBox News Network, “It just feels good to be here in a position to give to those in need, or whoever just wants a plate from us to try the food.”

Later in the evening, Joey and another Golden Plated employee, who preferred not to be identified, prepared plates to deliver to the staff working inside the Manitowoc County Jail. They hoped to offer a small gesture of appreciation to the men and women spending the holiday on duty.

When they arrived, they were informed by Officer Jensen that the jail was not allowed to accept the donation. The response was met with understanding, although it came with a touch of disappointment. The second employee suggested that the meals be donated to a local homeless shelter instead, ensuring that the food would still reach people in need.
For Joey Golden Jr, this Thanksgiving was not about publicity or recognition. It was about showing kindness, serving his community, and extending compassion to anyone who needed it. His actions reflect the values he works to live by every day.
